I bring the whole of myself to supporting others. At the heart of my therapeutic approach is fierce love, guided by the value that we all deserve connection, dignity, community, and to be accompanied by kindness in our pain and joy. I believe in being human together, and that laughter, tears, celebration, resistance and grief all have a place in our work.
I have 7 years of experience in the mental health field in a range of settings: counselling in private practice, community counselling, and crisis response. My practice is deeply grounded in my values for social justice, and in being a constant learner. I commit to receiving regular clinical supervision, professional consultation and development, and personal therapy to ensure that our work is held in a network of support.
Hi, I’m August.
Who and Where am I? An Acknowledgment of Positionality and Land
I am a white descendant of English and Irish settlers, and was born and raised in Nogojiwanong, an Ojibwa word meaning ‘the place at the end of the rapids’, on the territories of the Anishinaabeg. All my grandparents and several generations of my ancestors lived on these territories as uninvited guests, and I moved to the traditional territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən also known as the Songhees and Xwsepsum Nations in 2014. I hold immense gratitude for my experience of life on these territories, and for the ongoing Indigenous stewardship of these lands. I believe deeply in the imperative to return and restore land to Indigenous stewardship in ways that honour Indigenous governance and dismantle colonial institutions. I am always seeking new ways of putting this belief into action as an accomplice in decolonial lifeways.
I am also trans, queer, non-binary, straight-sized, neurodivergent, and non-disabled. Where I hold power and privilege in my identities, I strive to also hold ever-increasing awareness and accountability.
